ARIES Powder Ram™
Powder Compression Die
The ARIES Powder Ram™
Powder Compression Die
The ARIES Powder Ram™ Powder Compression Die separates powder compression from bullet seating. This eliminates the problems associated with using the bullet and bullet seating die to compress the powder.
If you load rifle cartridges with a compressed powder charge, the bullet and bullet seating die are used as a ram to compress the powder. This can deform the bullet, resulting in significant loss of accuracy. This deformation can appear as a ring or scuff mark around the bullet ogive, or can be so slight as to be unseen by your eyes. If you use separate seat and crimp dies, there is also a chance that the compressed powder will push the bullet back out before being crimped, resulting in longer cartridge OAL. Ideally the powder should be compressed before bullet seating.
The ARIES Powder Ram™ Powder Compression Die houses a precision machined Powder Compression Plug (shown at left). The Powder Compression Plug is caliber specific and precision sized so as to not change the size of the case neck. An Adjustment Screw on top of the die body allows you to easily set the amount of powder compression to suit your needs.

Single Stage Reloading Presses
Just set up the ARIES Powder Ram™ and compress all the the cartridges in your loading block then switch the press over to your bullet seating die and continue as usual.
Progressive Reloading Presses
Works Great in progressive presses too! In progressive presses that use separate seat and crimp dies, the ARIES Powder Ram™ typically installs in the bullet seating die station and a combined seat/crimp die is used.
For example, on Dillon Precision presses:
• RL 550B – The ARIES Powder Ram™ installs in Station 3, instead of the bullet seat die, and a combined crimp/seat die is installed in Station 4.
• XL 650 – The ARIES Powder Ram™ installs in Station 3, instead of the powder check, and the standard bullet seat (Station 4) and crimp (Station 5) dies are used.
• Super 1050 – The ARIES Powder Ram™ installs in Station 6, and the standard bullet seat (Station 7) and crimp (Station 8) dies are used.
